The all-new Gymbox Farringdon has arrived – the big, big brother of the Gymbox family. Not only does this new club boast the most innovate equipment the London fitness world has ever seen, but it also puts on classes that you need to complete a health waiver just to take part in. Lulu Le Vay reports.
Sweating at the cutting edge
Last November, 2016, Gymbox opened Gymbox Farringdon. At 42,000 square feet, it's the biggest space to date, and the most impressive gym London has ever seen. Alongside its areas devoted to combat, functional training, sports performance and its treatment rooms to help keep you training at top capacity, Gymbox Farringdon also hosts the very best in goup exercise, and we're not talking dreary Legs, Bums and Tums, or your run-of the-mill aerobics. Doing what Gymbox does best, Gymbox Farringdon has a timetable bustling with a plethora of challenging and cutting-edge classes. Amidst the 150 classes that are put on every week, there are a number of unique classes specific to this site. Row 30 which captures elements of competitive on-water rowing, Stick 'n' Move which is a boxing and HIIT workout, and Escalate, which is a high-intensity interval session. But the class that has caused ripples through global fitness is Flatline, a workout designed to push you so close to your limits your life could be in danger.
You want a body to die for?
Flatline is a class launched by Gymbox – available only at Gymbox Farringdon – that has been called the hardest and most dangerous class in the world. Having launched when the new club opened last year, Flatline has grabbed the attention of many – from fitness freaks who have dared to give it a go, through to local and mainstream lifestyle and fitness media. The class, which requires participants to sign a waiver before attending, has been reported on through a wide variety of channels. Whether they liked it or not, Flatline got them talking, from fitness blogs such such as the Allrounder and women's press such as Look, through to the Independent, Metro and The Daily Mail. TV platforms ITV News and SBTV have also reported on it. For a full review of Flatline on our blog, click here. Once again, this evidences how and why Gymbox is continually leading the fitness industry from the front. Gymbox is the fitness avant-garde.
No train, no gain
Gymbox Farringdon is not all about the classes. For those who have already seen the vast space, designed by club visionary Patrick McKinney it's also home to training areas that will ensure you have the capacity to reach the fitness goals you had only dreamed of. As Patrick says: "The sheer scale of it is amazing. It's twice the size of a normal club. This has allowed us to be more generous with the space, and create areas where things can happen rather than being defined by a specific function". The centre piece of the new gym is th functional training area, which consists of a vast three lane sports turf track. Here, members can flip tyres, pull a sled, or sprint. Also, Gymbox couldn't open a new club without including a massive frame to play on.
Gymbox Farringdon has created the ideal space for body weight and calisthenic training, along with rigging points for aerial, trapeze and circus workouts. There's plenty of space and opportunity to hang upside down, or show off that perfect pull-up. Furthermore, this vast site also includes a sensational combat area that features a Dojo and Olympic sized boxing ring, and over 20 punch and kick bag stations. This combat area is home to the best fight schools in London, including the Roger Gracie Academy for BJJ, and Team Tieu for Muay Thai. To top it all off, the sports performance training equipment is the best of its kind – the kit has been cherry picked from a variety of different brands. The primary aim of this is to cater for a wide range of training, which includes Olympic lifting and strength and conditioning.
Gymbox Farringdon. The best fitness playground London has ever seen.
